Just eat in moderation (small portions of each) and exercise when you get home. You won’t gain any weight because of one bad day. But if you start binging and eat like that for days, then yes, you will gain weight.

Don’t listen to the person above me. Chinese food IS western. Chinese food in the West is ‘loosely inspired by’ Chinese recipes, but it’s been almost completely re-invented for a western market, which is why it’s as fattening as it is. Chinese food in the western world is just as bad, if not worse, than burgers.

Eating one meal will not make you gain weight,
Just relax and give yourself the day off.

Go back on your diet tomorrow!

    It’ll be fine.

You probably won’t even gain 1lb.

Just don’t eat the whole portion, eat in moderation and leave 1/2 of everything for someone else.

Chinese food is good for you if you eat the right type and it is not westernised. I regally join and eat with a Chinese family that Owen the restaurant. If its full of fat or oil its a cr*p Take away or restaurant. How many fat Chinese do you see???

Although traditional Chinese meals are low-in fat and packed with vitamins and minerals, the dishes from Chinese restaurants and takeaways can be loaded with calories, because a lot of oil is used and many foods are deep-fried.

Soups really are the best choice as they’re usually made from a clear broth. Using chopsticks can help slow down the speed at which you eat, especially if you’re not very good at using them – you’ll spend more time trying to get the food from the plate to your mouth! A serving of boiled rice contains just 370 calories, while egg fried rice adds up to 625 calories, so go for boiled if possible. Avoid the batter & don’t eat too much of the sauce.

As for the rest of your diet, starvation techniques (ie. some cereal & nothing else until tea time) don’t work. Your metabolism will have slowed to a near halt by the time your take-away arrives. Also, as you said, starving yourself makes bingin far more likely. It’s better to spread you meals to little & often throughout the day.
And I don’t know if you exercise, but you need to do a mix of strength training (e.g. push ups, sit ups, weight training) & cardio (e.g. running, cycling) to really lose weight. Did you know muscle burns more calories than fat? So eat lean protein instead of your (no doubt) sugary cereal.

Remember, nobody can force the food into your mouth!

Have been on a high protein, moderate carb, low fat diet accompanied with 5-6x per week cardio & 2x per week weight training. Have lost 1pound a week for the past 6weeks. & I havn’t felt hungry or binged! :)

Ooh!! Triple dosage of MSG – you lucky girl! Yes most Chinese food is "really bad" – MSG should be on the banned substances list, it really should! Do you *KNOW* what that stuff can do to you?!

I don’t know why they bother using it – I’ve had *FAR* nicer Chinese food without it (and that’s not just because a mere trace of the stuff is enough to leave me bedridden for up to week – and, no, I am NOT exaggerating!)

It sounds very much to me that you have an eating disorder already – how much do you weigh, how tall are you and your age, please.

If you don’t have an ED, then it certainly sounds like you have body dysmorphic disorder. I suggest you go to your GP and have them refer you to a psychiatrist specialising in BDD and EDs in teenagers. I am *VERY* concerned about you. If you wish you can email me – I am a recovering anorexic myself, so I know all about it.

Chinese food – the decent sort – can be very healthy, but you have to know where to go and what you’re eating. There are only 2 Chinese restaurants in the vicinity that I would eat at. Neither use MSG and they use fresh, organic ingredients. Other than that, I never eat Chinese food.

Well I indulged in a chinese buffet yesterday and must have had about 3 full plates.

I mainly ate all the meats in sauces, hardly touched rice/noodles as they fill you up more and have alot of calories.

Wouldn’t like to guess how many calories I ate…

I’ll keep it to a rare occasion!
